What is the Pre-Race Clinic?

Current Adventures Kayak School, in conjunction with Eppie’s Great Race and The River City Paddlers, sponsors this paddling instruction clinic to get you kayak ready for the Eppie G Johnson Memorial Pre-Race and for Eppies Great Race. All skill levels are welcome. Local experts in paddling instruction and top competitors from the local kayak racing scene will be on hand to provide inside tips and insight into the techniques and strategies that can help you paddle far more effectively and safely during Eppie’s Great Race.

How does it work?

Participants will be divided by craft and experience levels. Valuable paddling skills for beginners to experts will be addressed for all types of watercraft. During the clinic we will proceed downstream to River Bend Park, covering the entire Great Race paddling course.

Saturday, July 11th, 2015

Time:
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. near the “Great Race” watercraft starting area (south side of the lower Sunrise footbridge, downstream of Sunrise Avenue) and the Pre-Race clinic will begin at 9:30 a.m. and last ’till approximately noon.
Cost:
$20/person – payable on site day of the event: a portion of the proceeds benefit the Sacramento County Therapeutic Recreation Services.

Eppie G. Johnson memorial Pre-Race – Don’t forget the Pre-Race the day after the Pre-Race clinic! It’s a great opportunity for everyone to get out for a fun race and after party and check out their paddling skills on the race course with other paddlers on the water only a week before The Great Race! Equipment Options:

Participants must provide their own kayak equipment or arrange rentals prior to the Pre-Race clinic day. For kayak and gear rental contact Current Adventures at (530) 333-9115 or (888) 452-9254. Helmets and life jackets are required. Bike helmets are acceptable.
